Six Smart Ways To Slash Sugar From Your Diet

Usually I can pass on salty snacks and bready things. Not that interested. But, when it comes to sweet, I swoon . . . and sometimes over consume. Really, I am pretty good about sugar, but it IS my weakness and I sometimes realize it’s getting out of control and have to take steps to curb sugar cravings. Six Smart Ways to Slash Sugar From Your Diet

I know I’m not the only one with a mighty sweet tooth, it’s a national pastime. The American Heart Associate says that “added sugars” should be limited to 6 teaspoons a day for women and 9 teaspoons for men – but the average American scarfs down about 3x that much per day. Too much sugar is linked to obesity, diabetes and a ton of other chronic diseases that I wouldn’t wish upon my worst enemy. Today, I’m sharing Six Smart Ways To Slash Sugar From Your Diet Six Smart Ways to Slash Sugar From Your Diet -- easy swaps and solutions for your low carb lifestyle and healthy living journey

Instead of caving in at the vending machine: I plan ahead to set myself up for no-sugar snacking success. In a perfect world, I’d be bringing my own homemade, low-carb snacks to work and the gym – but sometimes life just gets in the way. Instead of getting the hangries and eating anything I can find in a vending machine or gas station, I’ve subscribed to a new way of low-carb snaking – signing up for the Onnit Keto Box.  This monthly subscription box features a specially-curated collection of packaged keto snacks, supplements and other goodies that make keeping a keto or other low-carb-high-fat diet easier. This month’s box featured everything including keto snacks from Stryve Beef Bitlong and Performance Nut Butter to ChocZero Maple Syrup and Ketomaina Chocolate Wonder Food and more … plus a $10 Gift Card to Onnit.

And, guess what?! I’m giving away this month’s box – just hop on over to my Instagram to enter by 11/21 at midnight CT. If you don’t do  Instagram, just drop a comment here and I will make sure you get included in the drawing!

Instead of reaching for a handful of M&Ms after lunch: I’ve been curbing sugar cravings with Sweet Defeat, a mint-flavored lozenge that is clinically proven to reduce consumption of and desire for high-sugar foods. Comprised of five high quality, plant-based ingredients, this little pill dissolves on your tongue to help stop sugar cravings within seconds and is an effective, safe, and convenient remedy to help curb sugar cravings in seconds. It’s my opinion that when you jump off that sugar-craving cycle, it’s soooo much easier to make better, healthier food choices.

Instead of downing a sugary Monster Energy drink before my run: I’ve been drinking ESSENTIAL AMIN.O. ENERGY Plus Electrolytes, it’s so much better than downing one of those monsterous sugar bombs that can have up to 60 grams of sugar per can!  ESSENTIAL AMIN.O. ENERGY Plus Electrolytes feature 100g caffeine, from green tea and coffee bean extract, plus five grams of amino acids and critical electrolyte nutrients like potassium and sodium to keep me hydrated on a long run. Best yet, this ESSENTIAL AMIN.O. ENERGY Plus Electrolytes (available in Ready-to-Drink cans or a Powdered Mix) contains zero sugar.

Instead of drowning my coffee in sugary gourmet syrups: Instead of taking my coffee sweetened with those calorie and carb-loaded gourmet syrups (which is the same pretty much as guzzling straight sugar), I can still get the same coffee shop flavor experience with NOW® BetterStevia® — it’s a a zero-calorie, low glycemic, natural sweetener available in “regular” or more than a dozen “fancy flavors.”  I have been a superfan of NOW® BetterStevia® since I visited their manufacturing facility several years ago – this family-owned company uses a special proprietary process in which they extract the organic stevia that prevents that bitter taste many stevia brands are known for. I used my little bottles to support an (almost) sugar-free diet and sweeten everything from coffee and tea to plain oatmeal and yogurt . . and more!

Instead of denying myself something sweet at all: I allow myself to have some natural sugars when I need them, but am mindful that it’s coming from whole foods like fruit or even packaged goodies like Bare Snacks. This way, I’m getting the benefits of natural fruit sugars along with all the other goodness like fiber, vitamins, minerals and other important nutrients. Bare Snacks, like the apple, coconut or banana chips are ridiculously yummy straight out of the bag – everything is baked, never fried – plus, no artificial anything . . . as the name implies, the snack is “bare.”  The coconut chips are my favorite and also can be worked into a low-carb, high-fat diet! These healthy snacks are also super delish on yogurt, oatmeal or in trail mixes – I’ll share some recipes soon.

Instead of grabbing a glass of chocolate milk post workout: I much prefer to mix up a simple shake with Signature 100% Whey Protein in the chocolate flavor from BodyBuilding.com. I have always loved chocolate milk, it was one of the few treats I was allowed on a regular basis as a kid. However, LOTS of added sugar in there, lots – NesQuick is definitely not a low carb snack. But a shake made with chocolate whey protein powder is a low carb snack and promotes muscle growth, counteracts muscle breakdown and supports workout recovery. While there are 2g sugar in each serving, it is NOT added sugar, it’s just coming from the whey – whey is derived from dairy and there is a small amount of milk sugars that remain.

What are your favorite sugar-free snack, low-carb snack or keto snacks? Do you have any tips to curb sugar cravings. Please share in the comments – XOXO, Jennifer
