During these crazy COVID-19 times, we are all missing our gym time and Spartan training! You can still stay in fighting shape and be ready for race day (whenever that may be) with home workouts.
Spartan has been sharing plenty of home workouts for obstacle course racing across their various media, they are worth a look-see! But, you can also get a legit workout when working at home and/or doing every day chores – check out my 40 Ways to Get a Spartan Workout While Doing Everyday Chores.
Getting your workout done while doing chores or going about your everyday routine is a win-win! I don’t know about you, but I like winning — on and off the course! Here are some ideas to get you going and keep you strong for your next Spartan race or other OCR!
1. Bicep curls with gallon milk or laundry soap jugs.
2. Ground-to-Shoulder with the dog food bag every time pup gets a meal.
3. Cast iron skillet swings (like a kettle bell) before cooking.
4. Whip cream or churn butter by hand.
5. Bear crawl baseboard dusting.
6. Carry the groceries in with all bags at once.
7. Carry overloaded laundry baskets up and down the stairs.
8. Add some books to a back pack and go about your chose wearing it.
9. Farmer carry cases of water bottles or beer.
10. Aggressive vacuuming, sweeping and mopping.
11. Mattress flip every time you change the sheets.
12. During yard work, jump backyard fence instead of going through gate.
13. Rake leaves.
14. Front squats with the 5-gallon water dispenser jug.
15. Shovel mulch, dirt or snow.
15. Wear your baby or toddler in a carrier for as long as they’ll put up with it.
17. On trash day, run filled can up and down the street a few times.
18. Do walking lunges, while vacuuming.
19. Do calf raises when washing dishes
20. Windex mirrors wearing ankle weights around wrists.
25. Do 20 skaters, high knees every minute on the minute while folding laundry.
26. Propane tank overhead presses before grilling.
27. Wall sit or plank while on the phone setting appointments or checking email.
28. Dry dishes by hand, before starting pull towel tautly with arms outstretched, hold.
29. If working at home desk, set timer and do 30 burpees on the hour.
30. Work at a stand-up desk, occasionally balance on one leg.
31. Trim trees and chop wood.
32. Mow lawn with old-school mower.
33. Slip rags on your feet and do traveling mountain climbers to dust floors or polish counter tops.
34. Return items upstairs one at a time for extra climbing.
35. Vacuum or dust under couch, stopping to leg press one side of couch while laying on back.
36. Squat jumps with a towel to dust ceiling fans.
37. Carry landscaping rocks.
38. Desk push-ups, incline toward the desk and decline off the chair.
39. Take area carpets outside, fling over a clothes line and “beat” them with a broom.
40. Squat jump to dust the tops of cabinets with a duster.
