Yeah, I Ran in the Olympics (Sorta!) + Torch Bearer WOD

I really love the Olympics and though I’m not usually a fan of sports spectating (I’d rather be doing it myself), this is always one epic event that I can’t bear to miss — my DVR is going to be working in overdrive. Thinking about the Sochi Winter Olympic Games got me feeling nostalgic for my role as a torchbearer for the XIX Winter Olympic Games — it’s hard to believe it was 12 years ago!

I wrote a post about my experience for Core Power; if you are interested, go check it out! Oh, by the way, this great company is the official protein drink of the Sochi Olympics! And right now you can get $5 off a case of Core Power through Amazon.com.Jennifer Fisher Salt Lake City Torch Bearer relay in austin

Olympic athletes aren’t the only ones who need a good workout. Pretty sure I’m never going to be bustin’ down the track and jumping into a bobsled, but I still want to stay in my version of gold-medal shape for all my amateur-hour adventures. I put together this fun but challenging workout in honor of the Winter Olympics past, present and future! I think you’ll FEEL THE BURN!

So, what is your favorite event to watch in the Winter Olympics? I get excited for Freestyle Skiing and Speed Skating!

  1. What an amazing opportunity to have carried the torch! You are such a rock star! I have to honest, I’m not thrilled about supporting the Sochi games. Don’t get me wrong, I am huge fan of the Olympics and athletes in general, but Russia is doing a few things that I simple can not support. I know everyone may not agree with me, but I can’t get behind a country that A. captures wild cetacean’s, rips them away from their pod, and forces them into captivity for our “entertainment” during the opening ceremonies, and B. The president openly says that Gay Athletes are not welcome in his country. Who cares what your sexual orientation is, if you’ve worked your entire life to compete? I just don’t get it and it bothers me enough that I am considering not watching this year.

    • I know, it is disappointing that Sochi is tainted, the athletes work so hard — it should be about their achievements, not politics. Argh.

  2. The Olympics – especially winter – hold a special place in my heart because there was a time in my life where I was training to do the Junior Olympics for snowboarding… And this year, some of my friends qualified for the games!! MY DVR will too be working in overdrive!

    • Gigi, that is so awesome about the snowboarding! I taught myself how to snowboard about 5 years ago because my boys insisted I try it — it felt so weird compared to skiing! I remember that first trip, I was black and blue!
