4 Empowering Trends in Women’s Sports, Fitness and Adventure for 2020

This post is sponsored by adidas; however, all enthusiasm, editorial options, and content (other than noted} remain my own.

International Women’s Day (3/8/2020) brings awareness to the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women – including the celebration of female athletes of all ages and abilities, not just those in professional sports.  That’s what I want to speak to today, how everyday women are supporting, empowering and lifting up each other to live, love and give their best through an active lifestyle. yoga adidas jennifer fisher thefitfork

Over the last few years, I’ve noticed several trends that remain on the uptick for active women. These include more female participation in “extreme” sports at an amateur level; support and encouragement through various “sisterhoods of sweat;” “do as I do” role modeling by older women to younger women and/or girls; and solo (or mother/daughter) adventure and sport travel. Six Amazing Female Athletes over 55

This post is sponsored by adidas, however, all comments, opinions and enthusiasm remain my own.

Age is just a number,” may sound like a cliché quote on accepting the inevitability of growing older, but I actually very much believe in the words. As a lifelong running and fitness aficionado, I have always been inspired by those other athletes pushing the limits of physical and mental toughness in the peer groups ahead of me. As a young kid, I looked up to the teenage Olympic gymnasts, as a mid-20s marathoner, it admired the amazingly fast endurance athletes well into their 30s – which at the time, seemed so old! woman push up workout adidas

Now that I am over 50 myself, I am still inspired by the generations of ahead of me – those women who are still whole-heartedly pursuing their fitness passions (and excelling) well into their fifties, sixties, seventies, eighties and beyond. Read on to discover the Six Amazing Female Athletes over 55 who continue to inspire me day after day!

What Running for 30 Years Has Taught Me

I was thinking about all the things that running has taught me over the years, and I tried to capture the most important in this post. I wasn’t a child prodigy runner, nor was I on the school XC team. But, I HAVE been running for 30 YEARS and it has blessed me with so many amazing experiences. What Running 30 Years Has Taught Me - Jennifer Fisher, thefitfork.com

These experiences have included running marathons all over the country and even representing Houston in the Athens Marathon; pushing myself and meeting new friends on overnight 200 mile relay races; missing an Olympic marathon qualifying time by seconds, but getting to run with the Torch in the 2002 Olympic Torch Relay; setting event course-records at the mile distance and the half-marathon distance while being in my 40s; and most recently, winning the RCAA 10 mile Texas State Championship in the “Super Master” division last year . .  probably my favorite distance of all time. Oh, yeah, and running has given me the confidence and “I can do anything” mindset that allowed me to take up Spartan racing at an elite/competitive level at age 48 through today! But, this laundry list is just a bunch of achievements, running has brought and taught me so much more, read on to find out:   Continue reading
