Holiday Gift Guide (and Tips) for Mom and the Sporty Family

This post is sponsored by adidas. However, all comments, opinions and enthusiasm remain my own. Thank you for supporting companies that support The Fit Fork.

As the mom of three young adult males, wife to lifelong athlete and hardcore fitness fan myself, I can confidently call myself an expert on the gear needs and desires of a sporty family. First, there’s “needing” something essential for the playing of a particular sport – like shin guards, or a helmet or a running bra that fits just right. Other times (and probably more frequently), there’s the wishing of some epic new gear, like those buzz-worthy sneakers that just dropped, a jersey in support of a favorite team, or some fancy sunglasses.

adidas soccer ball

Kick off the Season with Soccer! Who doesn’t love SOCCER on this planet?! A soccer ball is jut one of those all-around classic holiday gifts for the sporty people on your list.  While my kids aren’t playing in soccer leagues anymore, we still love to kick the ball around on weekends or head down to the park for a pick-up game. Seriously, carve out an hour of time this holiday season to kick a soccer ball around together with your friends and family and create sweaty fun memories, and hopefully start a new tradition!

Treat the Feet! The holidays are a great time to retire worn-out footwear and replace with shiny new models.  Between hard training from us all and boys with constantly growing feet, we usually have quite an array of shoe boxes under the tree filled with new skateboarding shoes, basketball sneakers, casual shoes, and football and lacrosse cleats. Check out the shoes for men, women and kids at adidas. We also like to save these nice, big shoeboxes from adidas to store medals, ribbons – and better yet, to fill with small gifts and toiletries for children in need, via a charity we support called Operation Christmas Child.

Socks for All:  I’m a mom, so of course I have to grab a few practical things as stocking stuffers – SOCKS are my number one choice! Everyone always needs more socks, either they’ve grown holes, are dingey grey when once white, or one of the pair has been eaten by the washing machine/dryer (how DOES that happen anyway). The socks at adidas are just right for my guys . . . and me, to take us through another year of activities with happy, cozy, moisture-wicked feet

gifts for mom - adidas for workout and gym

Mom Matters: During the holiday season, probably the most active person in the family is Mom, am I right?! Drawing on my own personal experience here, I keep up my normal workout routine and usually have my running ramped up because the weather is finally cool, plus I’m dashing here and there getting ready for parties, purchasing presents, and pulling out all the stops for my family and friends. Whew, that’s why you need to remember to treat Mom (even if that Mom is yo’self!) with a few holiday gifts from adidas . . .  like some new athletic or casual apparel! My top picks are fun, functional workout clothes for the gym or yoga class, or an “athleisure” outfit that go from sun up to sundown – I was LOVING this romper (below) and actually going to wear it to an upcoming holiday party! holiday gifts for mom - adidas romper

Haul the Loot: Bags and backpacks also make useful, thoughtful gifts for active families, adidas has so many fashionable styles that also hold up fabulously. From school and work, to travel and taking gear on-the-go, a new bag or backpack is sure to please. Also, I’ve notice that the fanny packs of the 1980s, now called waist bags for more cred, are BACK! A handy thing to have for short hikes, shopping trips, or heading out to a festival all day.

Merry Experience: Also, in addition, I like to give “experiences” along with my tangible gifts – a memory that will last longer than the gear given. For the active family, I always have really great ideas – like gift cards to trampoline parks, skiing season passes, or race registrations to fun runs and marathons in town. Having fun together like this really deepens a family bond and creates memories that will be reminisced about forever. One of my family’s favorite things to do is run Spartan races . . . you know, obstacle course through the mud and such! You can use my discount code FFRAN to save 10% at Spartan.
