Everything will be coming up rosy with one sip of my Low-carb Protein Pink Drink, a pretty pick-me-up that is pleasingly low-cal and nutritious.
Just 60 calories per serving – but with just 1.4g net carb, 7g protein and a 70mg caffeine to get you through a mid-morning or mid-afternoon slump. Read on to get the details on this refreshing pink drink recipe.
The caffeine and much of the “pinkness” of this creamy tea drink comes from Raspberry Black and Green Tea Blend, the brand I used has 70mg caffeine per tea bag. However, there are other pink teas with milder caffeine levels (try a pomegranate green tea), or if you’d strictly like to skip the buzz, then choose one of the many pink herbal tea, like a traditional hibiscus tea. Depending on what pink tea you use, the flavor profile will be slightly different – but all will be delicious! After boiling a few ounces of water, I pour in my mug with just enough water to cover the tea bag. The idea is to make the tea really concentrated, because it will soon be diluted with ice to cool it down quickly, blended with strawberries, and then almond milk to make it creamy.
So, I choose to blend my berries into the tea for more smoothness. I’ve seen copycat Starbucks pink drink recipes that use chopped or sliced berries inside the drink. But, I prefer not to get my straw clogged up or have to fish my fingers around int drink to pull out strawberries. If you are in a hurry and don’t want to mess with blending strawberries, the low carb pink drink still tastes fantastic without them.
Of course, whenever I can, I like to boost the nutrition of my beverages with collagen hydrolysate – not only does it help me meet my protein goals for the day, it’s also good for workout recovery and my joint, bone and gut health! These are all super important health areas for me as I continue to stay active and compete as a master athlete in my 50s. If you’d like to learn more, check out my previous post, Everything You’ve Always Wanted to Know About Collagen Hydrolysate and More.
Even though the official Starbucks Pink Drink is a pretty smart drink order (compared to so many of the menu options) with 150 calories, 2.5g fat, 27g carbs and 1g per serving. But my copycat pink drink has that collagen protein boost and fewer carbs and fewer calories. Just 3g total carbs compared to 27g total carbs for the coffeeshop pink drink. That means my low carb protein pink drink could also be considered a keto pink drink too for those of y’all looking to stay low, low-carb.
