9 Ways to Stretch Summer into Any Season

i This post is sponsored by prAna and I was provided product and/or compensation for my time. However, all opinions, editorial and enthusiasm remain entirely my own.

Summer is a state of mind, not only a season. I remind myself this time and time again when I start seeing shorter days and dropping temperatures. Thankfully, where I live, we take our heat straight into fall, but in a few short months I will be morning the hibernation of flip flops, tank tops and lazy, late nights on the porch.

9 Ways to Stretch Summer into Any Season

So, this summer-loving girl has found easy ways to make the feel-good vibes of summer last as long as possible.  By the way, you’ll notice I have lots of fun, functional clothing to set me free to do the things I love in any season – it’s all from prAna.com (and you can save 15% with my discount code ESJFF15)  Yoga side plank with prAna, use code ESJFF15 to save 15% at prAna.com

Practice “Stress Less” Yoga: To most, summer brings less stress than all the other seasons. Despite back-to-school routines or holiday chaos, you can return to that centered and calm place in your life with a little yoga. Your yoga practice is just that – YOURS. Don’t have a single moment of stress over the session length, the precision of poses or forcing yourself into a moment of Zen (ha). Just enjoy the moment and the calm, wherever you maybe, for however long it may be! (I often just need 10 minutes to  find my happy place)!

Get Outside: When possible, get outside and enjoy outdoor adventures while the weather cooperates and a few decent hours of daylight remain. Any sunlight that you can get will help boost your serotonin levels and help keep away the blues. Try hiking, running, outdoor boot camps, or even picnics at the park. Even if it seems warm during the day, I always take a sweater (like my Oberlie Hoodie from prAna) for those early morning breeze and nippy dusk hours. Unity Sweat / Yoga Pants, save 15% with discount code ESJFF15 at prAna.com

Enjoy Seasonal Frozen Treats: Nothing says summer like frozen treats such as ice cream, frozen yogurt, smoothies and such. Why not keep the happiness going by partaking in these yummy, stereotypical warm weather desserts whenever we please? Maybe pumpkin spice smoothies and cranberry sorbet in fall and champagne pops to ring in the New Year. I have a bunch of fall-inspired smoothie recipes HERE.  BTW, staying coy in my Unity Pants from prAna.

Swim Inside: Unless you are a polar bear, most of us opt to stay away from outdoor water in cold weather months. But, get into the splash zone of happiness by heading to your nearest indoor pool! Turn on some summer tunes and pretend like it’s a day and the beach, lake or river!

Take Home Town Field Trips: Now that summer is over and the tourists have departed, turn your weekends into staycations and enjoy all the museums, landmarks, amusement parks and other local attractions that were too busy and jam-packed with people on school break.

Go Camping: Go camping before the cold comes, at a scenic spot or in your own backyard. Or, even go “glamping” the living room when the temperatures dip down too low. Get the full experience with a star viewing party, scary story-telling, and s’mores.

Exercise Outside: While it’s common to spend more time in the gym once summer leaves, enjoy a few workouts with Mother Nature! I like to wear layers (like a hoodie, shirt and tank on top and capris and sweats on the bottom) so that I can peel off garments one by one once I start warming up. The Miley Top from prAna.com is a versatile racer-back tank with a built-in bra and moisture-wicking technology (making it ideal for layering).

Watch Summer Movies: Warm your heart (or at least laugh or scream) until your crying with some classic flicks all about summer — Jaws, Grease, Dirty Dancing, The Sandlot, Caddy Shack, Dazed & Confused. What would you add to this list?

Splurge on Flowers: Don’t wait for a special occasion, you deserve flowers and they brighten up any environment – just what you need if in a cold-weather funk. I might not be able to wear my beloved sundresses after September (like this Elixer Dress from prAna), but thanks to a modern world agricultural system, I can buy summery sunflowers in the dead of winter.

Also, check out this short video from prAna . . .I’m sharing it because it captures the mindset oft his company I love so much. Five independent, strong women on an adventure, doing amazing things . . . set free to experience life without limits in fun, functional clothing.

Another reason I love prAna is that their clothing is made from organic and/or recycled materials, and they are mindful of the keeping the planet and it’s people flourishing. You can read more about how they are making an impact in the sustainabile clothing movement HERE.

  1. I’m stretching summer as long as I can! September is one of my fav months because all of the tourists are gone from the beach. It’s one of the most peaceful times of the year. Just what we need with the craziness of the back to school routine!

  2. I’m super sad that summer’s leaving so this post lifted my spirits! 😛 I love prAna–their pants are the best! I’ll have to look into their sweaters too!

    • Seriously, everything they make is aweseome. . . the swimwear, the jeans, the sundressess (I not embarrassed to say I’m addicted)

  3. So ironic – I actually just commented on another blog that I was going to try to start a yoga routine once the kids are back to school. I really thrive on routine so am looking forward to the next season when the kids aren’t running amuck 😛

    • I switched gyms and my new one’s yoga isn’t as awesome . . . so I “try” to make time at home, but it seems that it can be the first thing to go when I’m busy . . . but I have made commitment to at least 5 – 10 minutes!
