9 Ways to Stretch Summer into Any Season

i This post is sponsored by prAna and I was provided product and/or compensation for my time. However, all opinions, editorial and enthusiasm remain entirely my own.

Summer is a state of mind, not only a season. I remind myself this time and time again when I start seeing shorter days and dropping temperatures. Thankfully, where I live, we take our heat straight into fall, but in a few short months I will be morning the hibernation of flip flops, tank tops and lazy, late nights on the porch.

Run Zooma Texas Half Marathon (or Relay, 10k, 5k) + Giveaway

On my unscientific, completely subjective yet always spot-on scale of race rating, ZOOMA Women’s Race Series ranks really, really high – a 10+! ZOOMA love isn’t mine alone – even Shape Magazine names it one of The Top 10 Women’s Races!  While ZOOMA puts on women-centric running events all around the country, but I must say to run ZOOMA Texas race (happening March 10, 2018 just outside of Austin) is near and dear to my heart. Mild Central Texas spring weather, gorgeous countryside (think pecan groves, bluebells and views of the Colorado river), and loads of Lone Star State hospitality fuel some of the fondness.Run Zooma Texas & Knix Wear Giveaway

After ZOOMA Texas being on hiatus for a couple years, it’s ZOOMA Texas is BACK ON at the Lost Pines Hyatt Resort and BETTER THAN EVER. To celebrate, I’m hosting a GIVEAWAY for a free race registration to any distance race (Half, Half Relay, 10k or 5k) in ZOOMA Texas on March 10th AND some (literally) supportive swag from a sponsor – winner’s choice of bra and undies from Knix Wear. Why Organic Cotton Matters & Jeans to Kara ’bout #prAnaLovesMe

I wrote this poem nearly a decade ago (and won a trip to Fashion Week in NYC) and yet it still seems so fitting today! “It’s fab to wear cotton when grueling at the gym. But more than that, cotton lets me walk a fashion limb. I’ve got cotton denim skinnies that I sport around the town, as well as a hooded jacket and a stellar evening gown. My friends all say I’m stylish, despite my lack of silks and furs, just peek into my cotton closet and I’m sure you will concur”!Prana Kara Jeans save 15% FFJEF17 at prana.com

Probably the only thing that’s changed about my love for cotton is that I now make a point of purchasing and wearing organic cotton whenever possible. Cotton grown and processed without the use of harmful chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides is better for the earth, the farmers, for me . . and for you! A brand I particularly love is prAna, not just for the intersection of adventure and fashion, but also because their clothing is mindfully made to support sustainable practices and fair trade. Read on to learn more about organic cotton, this company’s best practices, discover my favorite finds for the season and to get a great discount code. Continue reading

This post and giveaway are sponsored by Shipt.com, however all opinions and enthusiasm are my own!

As a healthy food blogger, mom of three teenage boys, and elite master athlete who puts a high value on her clean & green training diet, I spend a lot of time in the grocery store. Err, uuuuh, like every day. Everyone at my favorite H.E.B. knows my name, I feel like Cliff from Cheers bellying up to the bar.Shipt grocery delivery and thefitfork.com

Typically, I don’t mind shopping and actually rather like it. As a fit foodie and recipe developer, I find inspiration being among all the food! But, some days I don’t have the time or energy to spare . Errrh, like recently after a massive travel delay returning from Spartan World Championship in Lake Tahoe. After being away for almost a week, and not arriving home until midnight, I needed to stock the pantry and fridge with staples STAT! Thank goodness and WHOOHOOO for Shipt.com, an on-demand grocery delivery service that recently expanded into the Austin area.
