Grilled Banana Sundae with Coconut Cream, Date Syrup & Walnuts (and Superfood Cookie Crumbles)

Going B-A-N-A-N-A-S for my Grilled Banana “Sundae” with Date Syrup, Coconut Whip, Walnuts and Cookie Crumble. It’s a fruit dessert I don’t have to feel guilty about eating even though it’s just oozing with amazing flavor. Grilled Banana Sundae with Date Syrup

If you know me, you’d know I’d take a sweet treat over salty snack any place, any day. Only problem is that I try to avoid eating empty calories and refined-sugar foods. I’m not against healthy, functional carbs though – I need them to fuel me through my running and workouts – and to keep my brain from fogging over. This easy grilled banana delivers everything I need, read on to get the recipe for this Paleo banana dessert:

I discovered grilling bananas quite some time ago, when I was (to be honest) ransacking the house for something sweet. I didn’t think a banana was going to cut it with my cravings, but then I remembered the Banana’s Foster dessert I had in a fancy restaurant and was inspired. Instead of sautéing and flambeeing to get that caramelized banana sweetness, I would use the grill – and it worked!

Grilled Banana Sundaes with date syrup, coconut cream and walnuts is a whole food, healthy dessert that is suitable for Paleo diets. So yummy and a great fruit snack.

And indoor grill pan works just fine, and in fact is what I prefer. An outdoor grill is great to if you already have a backyard cookout going on or are in need of a camping dessert recipe.

It’s as simple as slicing your banana in half lengthwise, spraying the exposed part with coconut oil (or brushing with butter) and placing cut-side down on the grill or pan). I like to keep my banana in the skin, so that it doesn’t break up into chunks while moving around on the grill.

After grilling, the Paleo banana dessert comes together easy-peasy and is very forgiving if you want to use substitutions – I drizzle on date syrup but you could also substitute honey or maple syrup. I dollop with whipped coconut cream from a can to keep the recipe Paleo friendly, but you can easily substitute dairy whipped cream or Greek yogurt.  I sprinkle with raw chopped walnuts, but you can use almonds, pistachios, pecans – see how fun and easy and personalized this grilled banana is?!

One “extra” for this grilled banana sundae that I’d say DON’T swap is a crumbled up Banana Bread cookie from Completeats Super Foods Cookies – they are friendly for Vegan, Paleo, and Gluten-free diets and made with wholesome ingredients and no refined sugar. Honestly, when I’m rushing out the door and need a good snack or even breakfast . . . I grab one of these huge, delicious soft cookies that taste fresh baked! So good – so you can just imagine also good crumbled up and sprinkled on this grilled banana sundae.  Need a Completeats coupon code?
