Cherry Chocolate Chip Frozen Yogurt with Collagen is the perfect pick to sooth a summer sweet tooth – and a favorite healthy July 4th dessert!
Go ahead and have two scoops of this creamy frozen treat – it seems so rich and indulgent, but there is absolutely no added sugar, sweetened with stevia and sugar-free chocolate chips. The added collagen hydrolysate powder boosts the protein and overall nutrition – just 166 calories per serving with 16g protein and a great source of daily calcium. Read on for this no-churn collagen frozen yogurt recipe.
Cherries are abundant this month at the market, and usually on sale too – yay! However, frozen dark sweet cherries work just as well for this easy chocolate chip cherry frozen yogurt (and honestly make it so mess-free, as they come already pre-pitted). On this batch, I used a combination of frozen cherries for the blended part of the recipe and chopped fresh cherries for the “mix-ins.”
I’m always floored at how easy it is to make sugar-free cherry frozen yogurt at home, and have made a mental note to do this every week! You CAN use an electric ice cream machine – but it is not necessary at all!
Simply blend the main ingredients including frozen sweet dark cherries, plain Greek yogurt, milk, stevia and collagen powder in the blender. Side note – I used the new Vanilla Collagen Powder from Great Lakes Wellness, but unflavored will work too and if you want that hint of vanilla flavor, just add a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Then I just pour the mixture into a metal or ceramic loaf pan and stick in the freezer for about 1 hour. Note: I would NOT use a silicone loaf pan is it’s inherent flimsiness my have the yogurt spilling on the way to freezer. At this point, when the yogurt has thickened up, I stir in mix-ins – the chocolate chips and cherry bits – and stick back in the freezer for 2 more hours. If you add mix-ins on the front end, they will just sink to the bottom, so give that yogurt time to set up first.
After the cherry chocolate chip frozen yogurt has been in the freezer for a bout 4 hours, remove and let sit and room temperature for around 5 minutes. This will soften it up so that you can scoop it out beautifully – if you don’t give it time to soften just a bit, it will scoop up all crumbly, so be patient! This no-churn cherry yogurt recipe is just THAT easy, it will become your new obsession!
This sugar-free cherry frozen yogurt is such a refreshing treat with the sweet dark cherries and chocolate chips to off set the tart of Greek yogurt. The macros are really great too and it’s definitely a no-guilt dessert with no added sugar along with the boost of protein. I have eaten it for breakfast before and never felt an ounce of guilt.
What are you making for a healthy 4th of July dessert? I think this collagen frozen yogurt recipe would be a smart choice – wink, wink!
